East Bay Int. Assn. for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) presents: NDEr MARK JACOBY: “I Have Absolutely No Fear of Death” Monday, January 18, 2009, 7:30-9:30 PM BFUU, 1924 Cedar Street, Berkeley (NOTE: This meeting will be held in the wheelchair-accessible, first floor BFUU Fellowship Hall on the corner of Cedar and Bonita.) Mark Jacoby recalls not just the horrific Jeep accident, but how the near-death experience that changed his life began above the hospital bed where his broken body lay. “I looked down on the people in the room. They looked different as well. It was as if their outlines had been traced with a crayon of light, producing an orange glow around the lines of their bodies. The air had become lavender hued fuzz, like the air molecules were a translucent purple. I could see the air, and then I sensed a kind of hissing sound, and a strange perception of fuzzy darkness as I floated through what would have been the ceiling. “I was in the storm now, I could see purple hued snow falling as I continued to merge upward with something to which I was connected. There came a sensation of great attraction. I would not call it speed exactly, more like the world was rapidly moving away from me than I from it. The scene below me seemed to stretch away in an infinite distortion….” Mark wasn’t -- by his own description -- the best type person when he had the accident. The event changed his life. His NDE is particularly instructive because it included what’s known as a “life review” – not merely seeing the events of one’s life, but understanding and feeling how every action and thought had affected others. “I was judging myself,” he says… but he did so with a being by his side comforting him. “I realized I wasn’t who I thought I was,” says Mark. “And I have absolutely no fear of death. The experience of being there is to exist as love, inside love knowing only love. It was as if the emotion of love is what in the end and in the beginning I have always been. Love is what I have only been.” Not all the after-effects of his NDE were pleasant. He returned able to affect electronic equipment, among other things. But he has since integrated many of the insights of his NDE. Come join us to hear greet Mark and hear his story. Afterwards, join in our discussion and ask your own questions! East Bay IANDS monthly meeting are open to near-death experiencers and non-experiencers alike. A $7-$10 donation is requested to help pay for rent and expenses; no one turned away. |
Hello Friends, Sunday, July 25th at 6:30 P.M., El Cerrito IANDS (International Association for Near-Death Studies) will have a reading and discussion from Kenneth Ring's book: "Lessons From the Light." This month we will discuss Laurelynn's near-death experience, and what happened to her afterward! In the Fall of 1982, she went into the hospital to have a routine twenty-minute laparoscopic surgical procedure. However, her physician exerted undue force making the initial incision, puncturing her abdominal aorta. As a result, Laurelynn lost almost 60 percent of her blood---and her pulse and she entered a near-death state. During her NDE, she experienced the white light and a life review. She did not speak of it for a very long time, but later presented a paper at Dr. Ring's class on near-death experiences. Some time following her NDE, she experienced: Increased love for all people and all things Increased sensitivity Electromagnetic changes Increased psychic ability Seeing energy--auras, chakras No fear of death El Cerrito IANDS meets at Hillside Community Church, 1422 Navellier St. in El Cerrito. There is a convenient parking lot adjoining the Church. East Bay Int. Assn. for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) presents: NDEr / Artist / Peace Activist/ Hiroshima Survivor Takashi Tanemori: “Forgive Yourself First, Then Forgive Others” Monday, March 15, 2010, 7:30-9:30 PM BFUU, 1924 Cedar Street, Berkeley Dear Friend of IANDS, For 40 years, Takashi Tanemori was filled with a consuming hatred of America – a desire for vengeance, to make others suffer as he had. Takashi was just 7/10 of a mile away from the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima on August 5, 1945 – a horror that took the lives of his parents, a brother and a sister, and left him a homeless scavenger at the age of 8. It was an anger that would not cease until he had a powerful spiritual epiphany while driving across the Bay Bridge to a Remembrance Rally in 1985. Instead of giving a hateful speech that day, he says, he asked forgiveness of his own heart, and 10 days later his father appeared as a spirit. “He said, ‘Takashi, my son. You have found the greatest way to avenge your enemy, by forgiveness.’ Takashi – our speaker this month - recalls that the Hiroshima blast was “pure white. I covered my eyes, but saw the bones of my fingers, just like you see an X-ray“. Some 98 out of every 100 people within a mile of the blast died. As a teenager, Takashi came to America to seek revenge. He lived a tortuous existence for decades – seemingly blending in as an artist, poet, chef, financial consultant and even as a Baptist minister, but unable to shake the idea that he must avenge his father, a Samurai. He has survived a teenage suicide attempt, three heart attacks and stomach cancer, and has limited vision because of the radiation from Hiroshima. But today, he is a man at peace at last. He authored a remembrance, “Hiroshima – Bridge to Forgiveness,” has had his artwork displayed, and founded the Silkworm Peace Institute. Says Takashi, “My life story demonstrates how a heart twisted by hatred and revenge can be transformed by forgiveness, evolving to a path of peaceful wisdom and the essential work of healing human hearts.” Come join us to hear greet Takashi and hear his story. Afterwards, join in our discussion and ask your own questions! East Bay IANDS monthly meeting are open to near-death experiencers and non-experiencers alike. A $7-$10 donation is requested to help pay for rent and expenses; no one turned away. You are encouraged to bring refreshments for sharing! IANDS EAST BAY * BERKELEY East Bay Int. Assn. for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) presents: NDEr / Author/Producer/Minister /International Speaker SHARON LUND TWO SPECIAL NIGHTS MONDAY, JUNE 28: Sharon shares her remarkable story. Q&A/discussion follows. 7:30-9:30 PM TUESDAY, JUNE 29: Sharon introduces and shows her award-winning documentary, DYING TO LIVE, and takes your questions. 7:30-9: 30 PM Berkeley Fellowship 1924 Cedar St., Berkeley Dear Friend of IANDS, We’re delighted to have international speaker Sharon Lund join us for two special nights this month. With spiritual help and a near-death experience, Sharon has survived a lifetime of adversity with the strong belief that every challenge must be seen as a blessing. As a child, she was raped by her grandfather for nine years. But she says an angel took her out of her body to protect her, told her we are all connected, and taught her how to communicate with various dimensions. In 1984, while in a bad marriage, Sharon had a spiritual experience as she was attempting suicide. She became one with the Light but was told she must return to earthly life with the purpose, “to become a healer, teach around the world and write books.” In 1986, Sharon became active in the cancer and AIDS communities. She assisted people and stayed at their bedside as they made their transition. Then came the ironic shocker: she saw her silhouetted ex-husband announce on a Dan Rather AIDS TV Special that he was infected. But Sharon knew it was him, got tested - and her tests came back positive. In 1997, due to AIDS complications and down to 87 pounds, she had a near-death experience. She left her body, immediately felt healed, saw a review of her life, went through a tunnel and was united with the “brilliant, loving White Light of God.” This time she was given a choice to leave or stay. She returned to help her daughter, but it was she who miraculously recovered. And she fulfilled the life purpose she was given. Sharon is the author of Sacred Living, Sacred Dying: A Guide to Embracing Life and Death, as well as The Integrated Being: Techniques to Heal Your Mind-Body-Spirit. Sharon’s life and death experiences have taken her throughout the world. She has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, 48 Hours, Eye on America and CNN. She was featured in the November2007 issue of Oprah Winfrey’s “O” magazine. She stars in and is also the producer of the new award-winning film ”Dying to Live.” In this inspiring documentary, some 18 NDErs share their new perspectives on life – and death – and provide viewers with a deeper understanding of this most natural experience. Sharon will introduce the film on Tuesday night. Sharon’s books and the DVD “Dying to Live” will be available for purchase each night. Come join us to hear and greet Sharon, and join in the discussions each night! |
